A SUFFOLK firm has taken a big step towards reducing its carbon footprint.

Newton Commercial, a leading manufacturer of interior trim for British classic sport cars, based in Leiston, hired Azursolar to install 216 solar panels on its south-facing roof, potentially reducing its carbon footprint by 22.5 tonnes of C02 per year.

Jonny Newton, managing director of Newton Commercial, one of the first firms to achieve the gold level of the Suffolk Carbon Charter, said the idea was initially to save costs against energy price fluctuations.

He added: “I have noticed more and more businesses in Leiston installing solar panels.

“We all appreciate we must do our bit for the environment.”
