THE Liberal Democrats finished a successful conference week by pulling off a gain from the Conservatives in the Woodbridge division of Suffolk county council.
Lib Dem Caroline Page had a majority of 144 over Tory Nigel Barratt in the by-election caused by the resignation of Ben Redsell, who pleaded guilty at Norwich crown court on a number of sexual offences charges.
Result in full: Caroline Page (Lib Dem) 970, Nigel Barratt (Con) 826, Michael Weaver (Independent) 378, Roy Burgon (147).
It was the second Lib Dem gain from the Tories in county council by-elections in the past 12 months.
