New acts lining up for the event – due to take place in Elmhurst Park and across Woodbridge over the weekend of August 8 and 9 – will be sharing the bill with Phil Hartnoll, of sibling duo Orbital, Matt Black from pop sampling pioneers Coldcut, and avant-garde electronic band White Noise.

Local DJ and festival organiser Ben Osborne said the event also promised to feature literary talks and art exhibitions, hosted by a number of other venues across town.

It will be the second Woodbridge Art and Music Event (WAME), following the success of last year’s debut festival, and will see the return of Italian-born DJ Severino, who has taken his disco sets to clubs around the world.

Live bands are set to include early indie dance band The Woodentops, Welsh psychedelic rockers White Noise Sound, London-based MALKA, fronted by Tamara Schlesinger, and six-piece ensemble Arms. Local representation comes from Colchester electro-folk act Fishclaw, singer-songwriter and Blue Bus Tour founder Peter Hepworth, guitar virtuoso Robert Castillani, Suffolk-born alt-folk duo Russell and The Wolf, and electro sea folk act Aartwork, as well as former Thomson Twins pianist, Nile Rodgers collaborator and Cyndi Lauper co-writer, Jan Pulsford.

London’s Big Chill Bar will also be presenting DJ Dom Servini and festival organiser Mr Osborne – both regulars at the East End venue.

Two of the acts due to perform at the event already share a unique connection by way of the Doctor Who theme tune, originally provided by members of White Noise who also belonged to the BBC Radiophonic Workshop sound effects unit.

Orbital would go on to cover the tune and make it a regular part of their festival act.

Mr Osborne said: “The aim of WAME is to bring a mixture of high-quality acts and cross platform art into the area, while also supporting and promoting those who are active in the local scene, so we very much want to make it an annual fixture.”

He added that a music and words strand of the festival is to be announced soon, along with art exhibitions and more music.
