NEXT Tuesday players from the Kingsley Healthcare SIL will be able to boast of representative honours when the league takes on the Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League at Framlingham Town with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Games between the two leagues have been going on for some years, and those with long memories will recall how strong the Border League used to be in the fifties and sixties – stronger than the Ridgeons League now perhaps.

The onset of the Essex Senior League slowly but surely eroded the strength of the Border League, and full marks for it keeping going and maintaining high standards.

And full marks to the SIL for remaining competitive and high powered despite so many local players moving over to an enlarged Ridgeons League since they introduced a First Division in the nineties.
