Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal crash in Long Melford which involved a replica Shelby Daytona sports car.
Emergency services were called to the A134 at 8.45pm on Sunday after receiving reports of a single vehicle collision.
Police, fire crews and paramedics arrived to discover a red Shelby Daytona Coupe replica sports car had careered off the road and collided with trees.
One occupant of the car - a woman in her 40s - was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second occupant, a man, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where he remains.
A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said he is in a stable condition.
The road was closed by police overnight for a collision investigation to be carried out. It re-opened at around 6am on Monday.
Shelby Daytona Coupe replicas are not widely available in the UK and typically have to be bought from a luxury car manufacturer or retailer.
The original vehicle was manufactured between 1964 and 1965, was capable of speeds of up to 190mph, and was used in sports car racing.
The vehicle involved in the fatal incident on Sunday was manufactured by American firm Superformance.
The tragedy has sparked fresh calls for safety measures on the Long Melford bypass after a number of deaths on the road over the years.
Richard Kemp, Suffolk county councillor for Melford, said previously: “This latest accident adds to the number of fatal incidents that have taken place on the Long Melford bypass since being built in 1991.
“It is frustrating for local councillors that, despite increasing traffic flows and more traffic increases calculated from the vast development proposed at Chilton Woods, those in charge of road safety at Suffolk County Council choose to ignore the requests made by local councillors over a period of time for greater safety measures on this section.”
Anyone with information related to the crash, has dash cam footage of the area on Sunday or saw a sports car matching the description is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Suffolk police, quoting CAD 410 of July 19.
