There are long tailbacks on the approach to Ipswich following a motorcycle crash which has left a driver in hospital.

The motorbike collided with a car in Highfield Approach, off Norwich Road, shortly before 9am, leaving the motorcyclist with a suspected broken arm and head injuries.

But the incident sparked long delays for traffic coming into Ipswich as police were forced to divert traffic along Ashcroft Road to clean up petrol that had spilled onto the road.

Two fire crews from Colchester Road and Princes Street were at the scene to manage the clean-up until 9.20am, but tailbacks have continued throughout the morning.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital where he is now receiving treatment for his injuries.
