A lorry driver is in hospital after a three-vehicle crash at a car park at Ipswich railway station in the early hours of this morning.
The crash took place at the NCP West End car park, used by the public and staff, at the railway station at around 4.15am this morning.
The lorry was involved in a collision with a black Ford Focus, believed to be a Greater Anglia company car which was badly damaged, and a blue Mitsubishi Space Star, which suffered minor damage.
The lorry came to a stop nearby in Burrell Road, opposite the railway station.
The driver, understood to be a man aged in his 50s, is believed to have suffered a medical episode. Firefighters helped rescue him out of the lorry.
Suffolk Constabulary and the ambulance service were called to the scene in Burrell Road at around 4.20am. The driver was taken to Ipswich Hospital. At 11am, police did not have an update on his condition.
There were no other injuries reported during the incident.
An East of England Ambulance Trust spokesman said: “We were called to help a man who was unconscious and having breathing difficulties on Burrell Road in Ipswich at 4.33am this morning.
“An ambulance and ambulance officer attended and the patient was taken to Ipswich Hospital for further care.”
A section of the road was closed by police during the incident. It reopened at 7.30am. The lorry was recovered at around 9am.
A Greater Anglia spokesman said: “A lorry crashed in a car park at Ipswich station at around 4.15am today. Emergency services were called and we understand the lorry driver is in hospital.
“Train services were not affected by this incident. However, a Greater Anglia car was damaged.”
The British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP were called at 6.19am to reports of a collision in Ipswich railway station car park. The driver of the lorry which collided with cars is thought to have had a medical episode. This is not being treated as a police matter.
“The local force also attended along with the ambulance service and fire service.”
The incident was earlier reported as a two-vehicle crash.
