National Lottery to support the 2018 Taste of Sudbury festival

Justine Paul of Suffolk Market Events, organiser of Taste of Sudbury festival, has announced today an award of nearly £10,000 from the National Lottery to help extend the festival’s programme through a series of new fringe events.

The festival, which attracted more than 7,000 visitors to Sudbury last summer, is a registered Community Interest Project aimed at showcasing the very best of local food producers and venues.

Organiser, Justine, said of the funding: “This is fabulous news for the Taste of Sudbury, and ensures we can continue to grow the event in the community through fringe events and help maintain its status as a free event for the town’s residents and visitors.

“With this funding we plan to put in place a number of fringe events in the week prior to the one-day festival and include a fringe tent on site at the main event.”

Planned fringe events include a wild food forage, tours of a local ice cream parlour and brewery, a free-from baking workshop and a beekeeping workshop.

“We will also collaborate with local initiatives including ActivLives,” says Justine, “and local allotment growers, to encourage more people to use local green spaces and to grow their own food. we will be offering these local groups a free stand at the event, and a chance to promote the work they do by holding free talks in the fringe tent on June 10.”

This year’s festival takes place on June 10. Entry is free.
