A Suffolk man who was found in possession of some the most distressing child porn movies seen by an expert has been jailed for 28 months.

The films, which involved torture, were found on computer equipment seized from the Lowestoft home of 52-year-old Charles Moore during a search by police officers on June 22 last year, Ipswich Crown Court.

Jailing Moore, who has no previous convictions, Judge John Devaux said around 200,000 indecent images and movies of children had been found on his computer equipment.

He said a small number of the movies had been described by the categorising officer as the most distressing they had seen and involved torture.

Moore, of Oulton Road North, Lowestoft, admitted three offences of making decent images of children, three offences of distributing indecent images of children, possessing prohibited images of children and possessing extreme pornographic images and movies.

In addition to being jailed for 28 months Moore was made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for the same period.

Richard Potts, prosecuting, said that on a scale of A-C with level A being the most serious, 1,746 still images and 169 movies found on Moore’s computer equipment were in category A, 1,358 still images and 42 movies were in category B and 196,726 still images and 36 movies were in category C.

In addition there were 72 prohibited images of children and 16 movies and 447 extreme pornographic images and 76 movies.

Mr Potts told the court that computer equipment belonging to Moore was seized after police officers with a search warrant under the Protection of Chikdren Act went to his home.

Andrew Thompson, for Moore, said his client had described what he had done as a compulsion that was driven by an urge to collect material rather than entirely for sexual gratification.

He said that since his arrest Moore had completed courses related to his offending and received counselling.

Mr Thompson said Moore had a strong desire not to offend again and had only distributed a small number of indecent images to like minded people.
