A driver was lucky to escape serious injury after her car ended up on its roof in a single-vehicle crash in Mildenhall in west Suffolk on Thursday night.

Emergency services including four fire engines were called to Worlington Road at around 9.35pm to reports that a car had “flipped over” in a single-vehicle collision, police said.

The force spokesman said the incident appeared at first to be serious, with reports that the driver was trapped. But when emergency services arrived, they found she had managed to get out of the car herself with one minor injury.

The force spokesman said: “It was quite a lucky escape. She only had a bump on the head and refused medical treatment from an ambulance.

“It was quite remarkable, as at the start of the incident it looked like it could be quite serious.” Recovery services removed the vehicle shortly afterwards.
