Four fire crews were called to deal with an overturned HGV vehicle on the M11, yesterday, which had to be closed.

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident on the M11 northbound yesterday (Saturday, November 25) morning.

Firefighters from Stansted, Saffron Walden, Harlow and Thaxted were sent to the scene at 10.21am, after a lorry overturned between junctions 8 and 9 the Stansted and Newmarket interchanges.

Nobody was trapped in the vehicle but the fuel tank was leaking fuel onto the carriageway which led to it being closed.

Firefighters worked to make the roadway safe and left the scene in the care of police and Highways England at 11.10am.

A man in his 40s was arrested by Essex Police and remains in custody.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

The spill is not expected to be cleared until 5.30pm when normal traffic conditions are expected.

Until then drivers who have yet to reach junction 8 are being diverted. Those between junction 8 and incident are being moved slowly past in lane 2.

Anyone with information about the incident, including dash cam footage, is asked to call Essex Police on 101.
