Police have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of rape in Colchester, after presenting himself to custody.
The Colchester teenager presented himself to Essex Police yesterday – Tuesday, October 10 – where he was arrested.
He has been released on bail until Wednesday, November 8 while enquiries continue.
A woman in her 20s reported to police that she was raped at an address off Hawthorn Avenue on Sunday, October 8.
An Essex Police spokesman said she jad been safeguarded and was being supported by specialist officers.
The spokesman added: “Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident and would like to reassure people that they believe it to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the general public.”
