AN ESSEX man has appeared in court accused of raping two women, with some of the offences dating back more than 20 years.

Neil Scrivens, 44, allegedly verbally and physically abused both women and as far as sex was concerned would “have what he wanted when he wanted”, Ipswich Crown Court was told.

“It didn't involve him caring or worrying if they consented,” alleged Matthew McNiff, prosecuting.

Scrivens, of Henrietta Close, Wivenhoe, has denied seven offences of rape, one offence of indecent assault and one offence of buggery in relation to one of the women and four offences of rape in relation to the other woman.

Mr McNiff said that some of the offences dated back to the early 1980s and he claimed there were similarities in the allegations made by both women.

He said that after his arrest Scrivens denied the allegations made by the women and claimed they had put their heads together to tell lies about him.

The trial continues today (Wed).
