A man in his 60s had to be airlifted to hospital today after his hand was trapped in an industrial machine.

Fire, ambulance and police services attended the scene shortly before noon at Whittington near Downham Market, along with the Helimedix team from emergency medical charity Magpas.

The fire service had to cut the machine away and Magpas volunteer Dr Mark Folman, a GP from Newark, and paramedic Simon Standen supervised the extrication of the patient’s hand.

He was assessed and given pain relief at the scene, before being transported by the East Anglian air ambulance to the specialist trauma centre at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

His condition was described as serious.
