A SUFFOLK helicopter crew have airlifted a man to hospital after he fell ill on a boat set for Belgium.
Thames Coastguard asked for assistance from RAF Wattisham earlier tonight following reports that a 53-year-old Roman national on the cargo ship Phocine had been taken ill.
The vessel - which was bound for Ostend in Belgium - was just leaving the Princes Channel on the River Thames.
A spokesman for Thames Coastguard said they asked rescue helicopter 125 from RAF Wattisham to assist and the man was taken to Margate Hospital.
It is not known how seriously ill the man was.
