The driver of a BMW is in hospital tonight with serious injuries after a crash near Southwold which police are investigating.

A black BMW 118 and a black Mercedes C180 were involved in a serious collision on the A1095 Halesworth Road in Reydon, near the Adnams distribution centre, at 1.50pm today (February 15), police said.

Firefighters cut free both drivers from their vehicles.

The male driver of the BMW was flown by air ambulance to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with injuries which are described by police as “potentially life-changing”.

The female driver of the Mercedes sustained suspected pelvic injuries and was taken to the James Paget Hospital for treatment.

The A1095 has been closed at the junction with the A12 while a collision investigation takes place. Traffic is being diverted via the next junction at Wangford.

The closure is “likely to remain in place during this evening”, police said.

The fire service earlier indicated that it was a head-on collision. The roofs of both cars were cut off.
