A 50-YEAR-OLD man was in custody today after being arrested in connection with a stabbing in Ipswich.

Detectives are investigating an incident in which a 29-year-old man received serious wounds to his leg during a fight.

The stabbing took place at around 11pm yesterday.

Police were called by residents who reported that a man had been stabbed in the thigh in the attack which took place in a block of flats in St Helen's Street.

An ambulance crew found that the victim was bleeding badly and took him to Ipswich hospital for further treatment.

His injuries were today described as serious but not life threatening.

A suspect was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and was questioned by detectives last night.

The attack follows an assault in the early hours of yesterday morning in Ipswich in which a man was slashed across the face with a knife by two teenagers.

The 40-year-old victim was left covered in blood and taken to Ipswich Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
