A MAN has been arrested tonight in connection with the murder of Stowmarket student, Matthew Pyke.

The former Stowmarket High School pupil was found stabbed to death in the flat he shared with his girlfriend, Joanna Witton, above a Nottingham bar on Friday.

A murder investigation began after a post-mortem examination revealed the 20-year-old died of stab wounds.

Mr Pyke's family from Chelsworth Way, Stowmarket, have been informed of the arrest. A police spokesman said no further details would be released at this stage.

Detectives from Nottinghamshire Police have been carrying out a detailed and extensive forensic examinations of the scene and trawling through CCTV footage.

Mr Pyke moved to the city two years ago and was just about to embark on his first year at Nottingham Trent University.

He is believed to have started but not completed a physics degree at the same university in 2006.

It has emerged that Mr Pyke and his girlfriend were computer gaming fans and are understood to have been co-administrators of a website dedicated to fans of the computer fantasy game Advance Wars, where Mr Pyke was known as Shade.
