A man has been charged by police after a four-hour stand off in Braintree.
Officers were called to Lancaster Road, in Braintree, at about 10.10am yesterday, following reports of a domestic incident. A man then locked himself in a first floor flat and refused to come out.
Shortly before 2.30pm officers swarmed the flat and arrested the man on suspicion of threats to kill.
A Samurai sword was recovered from the flat. No one was injured and no other people were found to be in the flat.Lawrence Baird, 45, of Lancaster Way has been charged with affray, threats to kill and three counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. He will remain in custody to appear before Chelmsford magistrates on June 16.
