A MAN has been charged with attempted murder following an incident which left a 58-year-old in hospital.

Laurence Wheatley, 45, of Sea Way, Jaywick, has been charged with attempted murder and will appear before magistrates in Colchester tomorrow.

It follows an incident in Jaywick, near Clacton-on-Sea, on Saturday July 11. It left a 58-year-old local man in hospital after he was stabbed a number of times during a disturbance in Broadway at about 6pm that evening.

A 34-year-old man from Jaywick has been released on police bail on suspicion of attempted murder until September 17 pending further enquiries.

Two women, 31, and 34 from Jaywick and Colchester respectively and one youth from Clacton, arrested for assisting an offender, have been released on police bail until August 18, while enquiries continue.

A 30-year-old Jaywick woman arrested for attempted murder on July 21 has been released on bail until September 11. Also a 37-year-old woman has been bailed to August 19.
