A 52-year-old man has been charged with the possession of an offensive weapon and a taser at the Angel Hotel in Lavenham.

Police received reports than a man entered the pub, on Market Place, in the early hours of Monday, January 8, with prohibited and offensive weapons.

Following an investigation, John Raines, of Langham Road, Boxted, has been charged with common assault, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a taser - a section five firearm.

Raines is set to appear before Ipswich Magistrates on Monday, July 30.

Following the incident, a summary review of the pub’s premises licence was undertaken, in accordance with the licencing act, and the Designated Premises Supervisor was immediately removed.

The decision was upheld by Babergh District Council’s licencing sub-committee at a hearing in Ipswich in February.

An application for a new Designated Premises Supervisor was later made to the council and approved, allowing the Angel to continue trading,
