A man has died after a crash on the A14 in Suffolk on Boxing Day, police have confirmed.

Police were called to the scene of a collision involving two cars on the A14 eastbound at Rougham, near junction 45, at 9.30pm last night.

In the early hours of this morning, a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman confirmed that one man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man has been taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with life-threatening injuries.

A third person was also taken to hospital for treatment but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said in a statement: “One man has sadly died following a road traffic collision at Rougham yesterday evening.

“Police were called to the scene of a two car collision at 9.30pm on Tuesday, December 26 on the A14 eastbound, just east of junction 45.

“One man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with life threatening injuries.

“A third person was taken to hospital for treatment, although their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.”

A spokesman for Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) said: “A volunteer doctor from SARS attended this very serious road traffic collision last night.

“A team from Magpas (a charity air ambulance) also attended.”

An East of England Ambulance Service Trust spokesman said in a statement: “We were called at 9.34pm on December 26 to a road traffic collision on the A14 at Rougham.

“Two ambulances, and ambulance officer, a critical care doctor from charity SARS and the Magpas air ambulance attended.

“Sadly one patient was dead on the arrival of the emergency services.

“Two other patients were treated at the scene and were taken to West Suffolk Hospital (in Bury St Edmunds) by land ambulance – one was in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries and the other was in a serious but believed stable condition.”
