A MAN is in hospital after he was stabbed in the chest and stomach in Bury St Edmunds.

Police were called to Beech Rise in Bury at midday today after a man was reported with a serious chest wound.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said a knife had been recovered near to where the incident happened.

Police have cordoned off the area surrounding the site of the incident.

Initially his condition was thought to be “life-threatening” but police said his injuries were not as serious as first feared.

Paramedics were called to the scene at 12.02pm and took the 57-year-old victim to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance said the victim had two stab wounds, one to the chest and the other to the abdomen. Both wounds were on the left side of his body.

A 15-year-old boy from Bury has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm is currently in custody at Bury police station.
