A MAN will be appear before a court today charged with murder following the discovery of a woman's body in Chelmsford.

Marc Chivers, 41, is accused of killing the 50-year-old woman, whose body was found by police at a property in Pitfield.

Chivers, who is unemployed, was arrested at the premises by police shortly after the discovery at about 10.20am on Friday.

A post mortem examination on Saturday, carried out by Home Office pathologist Dr David Rouse, concluded that the cause of the woman's death was asphyxiation.

Scenes of crime officers carried out a search of the property on Friday and Chivers was formally charged on Saturday evening.

It is understood that both Chivers and the victim, who has not been named by officers, lived at the property.

A police spokesman said: “A 41-year-old unemployed man has been charged with murder following the discovery of the body of 50-year-old woman in Pitfield, Chelmsford.

“Marc Chivers, of Pitfield, Chelmsford, will be appearing before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.”
