A 22-YEAR-OLD man from East London has appeared in court charged with murdering a teenager in a coastal Essex town.

Mark Brewer, of Fairlop Road, Walthamstow, was at Colchester Magistrates' Court after detectives charged him with the murder of Dominic Barritt, who died in hospital on Monday.

Brewer, dressed in grey jogging bottoms and a blue Nike T-shirt, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Chair of the magistrates David Druit told him he would be remanded in custody until November 17 when he will appear at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Post mortem examination results revealed that Mr Barritt, 18, who lived in Little Clacton with his grandparents, died from head injuries sustained during an incident in Walton High Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The trainee builder was described by his family and friends as a “gentle giant”.
