A man is in currently in police custody after a car was taken without consent in Bury St Edmunds last night.

At around 10.30pm yesterday, a Peugeot 106 was taken from a car park in St Olaves Precinct.

The car was discovered by police a short while later in Crown Street, where it had been involved in a collision with another vehicle.

Officers, assisted by the police helicopter, then searched the area and a 35-year-old man from the town was subsequently arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where he remains for questioning.
