A man has been jailed for three years and nine months for stabbing someone in an argument about cars last year.

Kevin Selby was confronted by the victim, a man in his 30s, after a number of cars were damaged in Ferdinand Walk, Colchester at around 10am on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

The victim climbed over a wall into a nearby car park and Selby plunged a stanley knife into his shoulder.

He then slashed him across his neck leaving him with a six-inch gaping wound across the throat and a stab wound to his left shoulder.

The victim was taken to hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Selby, 29, of Townley Court, London, was arrested at Marks Tey railway station later that day.

He admitted Section 20 GBH, wounding without intent and at Ipswich Crown Court today (Friday, February 9), he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Danielle Markoutsis, from Colchester CID, said: “The victim’s injuries in this case were really nasty and he could easily have been killed.

“It was a needless assault which could have a tragic outcome.

“This case shows that, regardless of your intent, if you go out with a weapon and produce it in public, it can have really serious consequences.

“I hope this is something Kevin Selby thinks about as he serves his time behind bars.”
