TRAFFIC has been brought to a standstill following a fatal accident involving a car travelling in the wrong direction on the A14.
Both lanes of the busy dual carriageway were closed as a result of the accident, which happened at around 3am today (Friday) near the sugar beat factory in Bury St Edmunds.
Police were called to the A14 to a report of a car driving west bound, along the east bound carriageway. It collided with a lorry and burst into flames.
The male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver is not thought to be injured, but has been treated for shock.
Diversions are in place, although the road is expected to be closed for a "considerable" amount of time.
