A MAN from Colchester has died following a road crash in Essex.
The collision happened in Great Braxted when a green Ford Transit van and a black Suzuki GSXR struck each other on Braxted Park Road shortly before 8.30am today.
The motorcyclist, a 49-year-old man from Colchester, was conveyed to Broomfield Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries where he died a short time later.
The van driver, a 65-year-old man from Basildon, was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He is currently being questioned by road policing officers at Chelmsford police station.
Investigating officer, Sergeant Matt Belcher, said: “From our early enquiries, we have established that a silver Nissan car was driving behind the motorcycle just before the crash happened.
“This driver was not involved in any way, but clearly is a crucial witness and will help us establish the circumstances that led up to the incident.”
A section of the road between Maldon Road and Tiptree Road was closed for around three hours while forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries and debris cleared away.
Anyone with information in connection with this crash is urged to contact investigating officers at Chelmsford Road Policing Unit on 0300 333 4444.
