A man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman after a night out in Braintree.

Adam Durnan, of Grace Court, Friday Bridge, Cambridgeshire, was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 12 months at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 23.

He admitted assaulting the victim in the early hours of Sunday, June 4, as she walked home from Braintree town centre.

Dc Christopher Sedgwick from Braintree CID who led the investigation, said: “When we arrested and interviewed Mr Durnan, he showed no remorse for his actions, and the ordeal he put this woman through.

“He admitted being drunk and out of control of his actions, but he has at least spared the victim having to go to Crown Court.

“This was a frightening attack, and he pursued the woman, before tackling her to the ground as she innocently walked home from a night out.

“One of our officers spotted Mr Durnan around an hour after the attack when his description was shared on the radio and was able to bring him in.”

Mr Durnan will also have to pay £1,000 compensation and a £230 in victim surcharges.

He was also ordered to carry out unpaid work for 150 hours within the next year, and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
