A police investigation is continuing after a man was reportedly stabbed with scissors during an alleged assault at a Sudbury hairdressers.

The incident left the man with stab wounds to his back and he was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds for further treatment.

The altercation is understood to have happened inside a hairdressers in Gaol Lane, Sudbury . A man in his 40s, from Ipswich, has since been arrested and bailed.

Jon Cutter, of Jon Cutter’s hairdressers, said he was unaware of any incident. “I didn’t get to the hairdressers until about 7.15pm,” he added.

“What ever happened there had all cleared up by then. It just seems a fairly strange story.”

It is believed a dispute between two men broke out at the premises, which ended with one stabbing the other. It happened at about 5.30pm on Friday.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police spokeswoman: “It was reported at 5.30pm on Gaol Lane. A 40-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of assault (causing) grievous bodily harm and was bailed to the Bury Police Investigation Centre until the evening of January 22.

“As a result (of the incident) the victim was taken to the hospital with stab wounds to his back.”

Police have said that because the investigation is ongoing, they are unable to reveal any further details relating to the incident.

It is not known if the victim, described as a man in his late 50s, was a customer or an employee.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that they were called to the incident at about 5.30pm.

The spokesman added: “It is believed a man suffered wounding injuries to his back. He was taken to West Suffolk Hospital (by ambulance).

“We had a rapid response vehicle (on the scene) in a couple of minutes and we sent a paramedic and two ambulances.”
