A MAN is in hospital with a fractured skull after being struck on the head with an iron bar during an argument in an Essex pub.

The 49-year-old victim was attacked at the Lakeside pub in Mill Street, St Osyth, at about 7.15pm last night.

The man, who comes from Sussex but has been working and living in the area, had been in the pub when he had a “minor argument” with another man, who then left.

An Essex police spokesman said: “The suspect, who is described as in his 40s, well built but average height, then returned to the pub and struck the man on the head with an iron bar.

“The victim was taken to hospital and has been detained with a fractured skull.”

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the pub last night or in the immediate area and may have witnessed anything that could help piece together the exact sequence of events.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Sergeant Jules Cole of Clacton CID on 0300 3334444.
