Police are investigating after a man from Clacton was sexually assaulted on Sunday.

The incident, which took place on Anchor Road at 8:30pm on October 26, was reported to police yesterday after a 20-year-old man was acosted, and subsequently sexually assaulted.

Investigating officers believe the latest assault is linked to five previous incidents involving boys and young men aged 12 to 20 being approached by a man of large build in his 40s. Police have issued an e-fit of the man they believe is behind the incidents.

Detective Inspector Leighton Hammett, said: “This latest incident represents an escalation in this man’s behaviour. Previously he has spoken to victims and tried to persuade them to accompany him. In this latest case he has grabbed the victim and pulled him into an alleyway off Anchor Road before sexually assaulting him.

“The description we have of the offender is very similar to the previous incidents and we believe it is the same man who we have already issued an e-fit of. If anyone recognises that picture or has any other information which could assist our enquiries I would urge them to contact us.

“In particular we are keen to speak to a man walking with three children along Anchor Road who passed the victim shortly after the attack. It is possible he may have seen the suspect and I would ask him to get in touch.”

Three men have so far been arrested in connection with the enquiry. Two have been released without charge and the other is currently on police bail pending further enquiries until November 23.
