POLICE in Essex have appealed for help from the public after a man was stabbed in the back and had his face slashed.

The 47-year-old man was assaulted by two men outside a block of flats in Clacton shortly after 7pm on Tuesday evening.

He was stabbed in the hand and in the back during the attack, which took place near the junction of Key Road and Old Road.

A police spokesman said: “The two assailants then slashed the victim's face and stole his mobile telephone before running off toward Warwick Road.”

A 32-year-old man was arrested in Clacton on Wednesday in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned by detectives at the town's police station.

The victim is recovering at home after receiving treatment for his injuries at Colchester General Hospital.
