A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the head and neck at the side of a busy Ipswich road this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to London Road in the town at just after 2.30pm to the reports of a multiple stabbing.

A group of young men had been seen fighting near the Sainsbury's superstore by the Hadleigh Road Industrial Estate.

It was initially thought one of them had a knife and had stabbed one of the young men several times, but police found the weapon to be a screwdriver that had made some nasty puncture wounds.

The men were reportedly seen running off towards the petrol station car park when one of them launched a brick through a window of a BMW 520, causing it to smash.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene found a man in his 20s had received several stab wounds to the head and neck and he has been taken to Ipswich Hospital.

Police have searched the area but been unable to find the males involved in the attack.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Suffolk Constabulary on 01473 613500.
