A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 days in custody after stealing £80 worth of meat from a store in Sudbury to fund his drug habit.

Sebastian Divall, who is currently in prison in Norwich, admitted to stealing the meat from the Co-op store in Sudbury on March 3 this year in order to sell for money to buy drugs from a dealer who was using his premises, and dog food.

At South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich yesterday, Divall said: “I was addicted to drugs at the time, I was allowing my premises to be used.

“I know it’s no excuse. It doesn’t make it right.”

Sentencing, chair of the magistrates bench Christopher Day said they were “mindful of the low value of goods,” but said “we consider it serious enough that you will have 14 days in custody.”

Divall was also ordered to pay £80 compensation, £85 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
