YOUNG Ipswich hockey star Harry Martin suffered penalty heartache for the second straight game as England’s hockey team missed out on a Commonwealth Games bronze.
It was a case of deja vu for Martin and his team mates after losing the same painful way in the semi-final to hosts India on Tuesday.
In a reverse of their last four match, England clawed their way back from a 3-1 deficit thanks to a hat-trick from top scorer Simon Mantell.
But golden goal extra time was unable to separate the two teams and it was Adam Dixon who had the misfortune of missing the vital penalty stroke to give New Zealand the medal.
Speaking after his semi-final loss, Martin said: “This has been one of the best and worst experiences of my career. It’s all sinking in to be honest, but what I do know is that this is a feeling I never want to experience again and I will use that to spur me on.”
