Family-run business has served the agricultural community for years, but its huge range of warehouse stock means it is also a boon for tradespeople.
The agricultural industry has long been aware of what a fantastic array of tools, clothing and equipment Framlingham business MDT provides, but it may still be news to local tradespeople and the general public.
The thriving family-run business, which has been progressively increasing its stock availability since it moved into its shop and warehouse at The Old Bacon Factory, in Broadwater Road, three years ago, feels it has all kinds of products that would appeal to electricians, plumbers and builders, as well as home DIYers.
Opening at 6.30am each morning, the shop is there for local early-rising tradespeople, who can stock up on tools and materials for that day’s job as they are passing. MDT managing director Mark Donsworth says: “The shop has expanded to become more of a warehouse-come-trade counter, filled with everything that a local tradesperson may need.”
The range, which is always being added to, includes hand tools – from proper shovels to hand forks for your window box – power tools, lubricants from half a litre to 205 litres, cleaning products, welding equipment, workshop lighting, drill bits, fuses and nuts and bolts.

Mark says: “Nothing is too much bother for our staff. “Whether it’s a 4mm bolt or a full set of points for your plough, these guys take it in their stride. “And if they haven’t got it they will get it and probably stock it from then on! That is how the business has expanded - sell one, buy two!” The hardworking team, who have more than 80 years’ experience combined in agriculture, are very knowledgeable about the specialised products they sell. Many of the suppliers provide training to MDT staff to ensure they know the product inside and out.
MDT is a family firm and, while it sells all over the country (from Inverness to Brighton), it is keen to be part of its community and help people, businesses and self-employed tradespeople from the area get the right product at the right price. Quality, value for money and reliability is, after all, so important.
