The garden at Melton train station has undergone a transformation thanks to a community project.

Volunteers from the Community Rail Partnership joined with residents and staff from Suffolk Coastal District Council and Suffolk Coastal Norse to plant 250 shrubs.

The planting is the latest step in a long process at the station with overgrown foliage and debris having to be removed.

Volunteer station adopter Aaron Taffer, who is also chair of the East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership, has been involved with the project for a number of years.

He said: “I am thrilled that the planting is now underway and I’m looking forward to observing the garden as it evolves and changes over the seasons. I’d particularly like to thank the volunteers that have given up their time to assist in the planting this week and hope that as the plants mature they will provide an attractive year round welcome to Melton.”
