A desperate group of Beavers based in Mendlesham are appealing for a new leader to save their colony from closure.

The Mendlesham Beaver Colony has struggled ever since its last leader left the group, and now faces closure at the end of July if nobody steps up to help.

Martyn Bryant, Scout Leader, said: “Our old Beaver Leader left some time ago and we have been struggling along ever since, but we have now got to the stage where if we do not recruit a new Beaver Leader, we will have to close the colony at the end of July, which is something that we would rather not do.

“Our much loved old HQ in Mendlesham Green had to be demolished as it was deemed unsafe, so we now have planning permission for our new purpose built HQ with extra facilities which can be used for other clubs and groups. We are hoping to start the building soon on the existing site.

“If you are able to give a few hours a week and if you like working with young children, have a sense of fun and would like to join a friendly Scout Group, then please get in touch.

“We will be able to provide full support and training by an experienced training team.”

The Beavers currently meet on a Wednesday from 5.30 - 6.30pm at Mendlesham Community Centre.

Apart from Mendlesham, the Beavers’ catchment area includes the villages Stoke Ash, Gislingham, Cotton, Old Newton, Stowupland, Stonham, Wetheringsett amongst others.
