A MAN in his 20s has been airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious traumatic injuries following a two-car collision on the A140 near Mendlesham this morning.

A female casualty was taken to Ipswich Hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said the accident had involved a Ford Fiesta and a Hyundai ix20, adding that the driver of the Fiesta - a man in his 20s who is believed to be from the Ipswich area - was taken to hospital.

He said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “The male casualty received initial treatment from clinicians at the scene before being taken by air to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridgeshire for further care.”

The EEAST was alerted to the incident at 7.28am.

Two rapid response cars, two ambulances, an ambulance service clinical manager and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended the scene along with the fire service and police.

Fire crews from Stowmarket, Eye and Debenham were called to the scene of the crash, on the A140 at Mendlesham, shortly after 7.30am.

One person was trapped in each of the two vehicles involved in the collision and needed to be cut free with hydraulic equipment.

Rescuers removed the doors and roof of both vehicles while paramedics stabilised the casualties and police controlled traffic.

The road has reopened.
