Mendlesham Post Office has announced it will be moving to a new premises on Old Market Street, with plans to offer an extra 18 hours service per week.

The post office, which is currently only open part-time, is relocating to Premier Mendlesham Bakery & Convenience Store, just down the road from the old premises.

This will mean that the branch will open an extra 18 hours a week, including every weekday afternoon.

The move also aims to improve accessibility, as the convenience store will offer level access and wide doors at the entrance – as opposed to the limiting steps at the current premises.

Suzanne Richardson, Regional Network Manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

The new opening hours will be Monday – Friday: 9am – 5pm; Saturday: 9am – 1pm.
