The Met Office is warning of a potential “danger to life” as momentum builds for strong winds across Suffolk and north Essex.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for the East of England as forecasters predict “very strong winds” will sweep the region this evening.
The Met Office is warning homeowners, businesses and commuters that the strong gusts could disrupt public transport, cause power cuts, and even pose a risk to building structures.
Forecasters warn: “There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or through falling trees and branches. This could also bring the chance of injuries and danger to life.
“There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.
“There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.”
Those living near the coast are also warned of a “danger to life” posed by large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
While there has been no official notice about the Orwell Bridge, forecasters predict that “some roads and bridges could close” due to the strong gusts.
Temperatures across the region are likely to stay warm throughout the day, with highs of 21C.
One or two outbreaks of rain are also expected in northern parts for a time.
