A Thorndon charity providing activity clubs for children with disabilities is recruiting its next round of volunteers ahead of its 40th anniversary this summer.

Holiday Opportunity Play Schemes (HOPS) is a small local charity based near Eye, supporting young people with severe physical, sensory, behavioural and learning disabilities by providing interactive play sessions.

Its team of volunteers is made up partly of teenagers from local high schools in the Mid Suffolk area, who give up their time during school holidays and weekends to help out.

The appeal for volunteers comes shortly after the centre underwent a refurbishment process to clear the back garden and make way for mud kitchens, built in collaboration with fellow community group Stowmarket Meadlands Mens Shed (SMMS).

SMMS also built a sensory busy board for the centre, equipped with switches, bells, springs and strings. The board was designed to assist the young people’s learning and communication skills.
