Mid Suffolk District Council has formed a tie-up with Stowmarket Rookery Bowls Club as part of a drive to get more people active.

The health and wellbeing team from the council is working to promote bowls as a regular activity for older people because of its health and social benefits.

As part of the drive, a series of taster sessions have been held at the club, while outreach sessions have been delivered at six sheltered homes and care homes in the area.

An update from Julie Flatman, cabinet member for communities, presented to the latest full council meeting, said: “In line with the council’s leisure, sport and physical activity strategy, adopted in December 2017, the health and wellbeing team are working to promote bowling as a popular form of activity for older people, encouraging more people to play and join a local club, become more active and connected and reduce loneliness.”
