Piles of rubbish were left beside roads near Hemingstone Church and on the road between Coddenham and Barham.

It was left in black plastic bin bags which split open to reveal contents including dirty nappies, cereal boxes, even an old computer printer.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “We will be looking to see if there are any clues to where they have come from – letters or anything with a name or address on it – if we find that we will take action.

“It doesn’t matter if people actually dump the rubbish themselves of if they hire someone else to do that, we can and will still take the action – unless the householder can prove it was taken by a licenced collector they will be liable to have to pay a fine if it is dumped illegally.”
