Comedy, drama, fable and fantasy are among tales to be told during a festival of stories in Suffolk this summer.
Organisers of the second East Anglian Storytelling Festival have announced a host of names set to join those already lined up for July 22-24 in Blaxhall, near Snape.
Among them will be Giles Abbott, the UK’s only professional blind storyteller; Abbie Palache, from the International School of Storytelling, in East Sussex, and Suffolk’s own John Row, who has taken his talents to schools, colleges and prisons across the USA and Europe.
They will be joining the previously announced Taffy Thomas MBE and Shonaleigh Cumbers, as well as festival coordinator Justine de Mierre, who said: “The lineup is spectacular this year. We wanted every session to give a variety of flavours of storytelling and I’m so proud that we’ve achieved that.”
The festival, which secured £15,000 of Arts Council funding to cover about three-quarters of its budget for this year, includes two performances each evening – an early session suitable for older children and adults, and a late, adults only session. Each features three storytellers, and tickets are £5 per session.
The full lineup can be found at eastanglianstorytellingfestival.co.uk and includes Andy Jennings, Sarah Walker, Barrie de Lara, Liam Carroll, Glenys Newton, Paul Jackson, Baden Prince, Marion Leeper, Simon Heywood, Carl Merry and Suzanne Arnold.
Full festival camping tickets are on sale now from wegottickets.com. Sessions take place at Blaxhall’s Ship Inn and village hall, with free events also planned, including professional development sessions, family story sessions and story rounds.
There will also be pre-festival schools workshops. A crowdfunding campaign to support the sessions is underway at crowdfunder.co.uk/the-east-anglian-storytelling-festival.
