Children at the Moreton Hall Prepcare Day Nursery, in Bury St Edmunds, linked up with residents from the nearby Davers Court Care Home for a reading session.

It came on the back of the success of the much-loved Channel 4 series, “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds” and youngsters at the nursery embraced the heart-warming cross generational learning concept.

Zoe Savage, manager of the nursery, said: “Our children always love story-time – the introduction of those from a different generation to read provided added inspiration for our young learners. Our children have grown so much in confidence since we first met with them in September – not only was it a lovely experience for those children who do not have grandparents close by, this was also a wonderful way for them to develop their caring side.”

Sophie Evans, deputy home manager at Davers Court, added: “Here at Davers Court we regularly work with schools and local groups as we know how much the residents enjoy being around the children, and understand the positive impacts intergenerational relationships can have on older people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

“It was a lovely opportunity for both generations to come together and share stories with one another and forge some really lovely relationships which we hope to build on in the future. It was clear from the smiles on the residents’ faces just how much they appreciated their day.”
