THE mother of a Suffolk woman who was brutally murdered has warned more women will suffer if her daughter's killer wins an appeal against his life prison sentence.

Sean Hilton strangled his former lover, Kim Fuller, after he flew into a jealous rage on March 3 last year.

The 39-year-old auxiliary nurse - who admitted killing the mother-of-two but denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility - was told he must serve a minimum of 15 years in prison after he was found guilty of the offence by a jury at Cambridge Crown Court earlier this year.

But Miss Fuller's mother, Connie Goddard, said last night she feared for the safety of other women after learning Hilton has lodged an appeal against his sentence in a bid to get it reduced.

“It has not come as a surprise to me that he is appealing, because he has got nothing to lose and anyone would do the same in his position,” said Mrs Goddard, from Exning, near Newmarket.

“But it could go either way, and I just hope and pray that the appeal goes against him and whoever hears the case decides to extend his sentence rather than reduce it, because no woman who starts a relationship with him will be safe once he is released from prison.”

Miss Fuller, 34, who worked as a cashier at the Nationwide Building Society in Mildenhall, had visited Hilton at his home in Brook Street, Soham, on the evening she was killed.

Hilton, who had been leading a double life with another woman throughout the course of his year-long relationship with Miss Fuller, dumped her body at a disused airfield in Norfolk, where it was discovered two days later.

At the end of the three-week murder trial in February, Mr Justice Gross said Hilton was a violent, self-pitying bully, who was a danger to women.

“He had a history of violence and it is amazing that Kim was the first person he killed,” said Mrs Goddard.

“But people like that don't change and there is no doubt in my mind that he will kill again. I just hope and pray that he is not released early, because I would hate for another family to have to go through what we have been through.

“There is nothing I can do about his appeal, and ideally I would like to see his sentence increased by about five or 10 years, but I just hope the appeal judge looks at the evidence and sees he is a violent bully who needs to stay where he is.”

The Royal Courts of Justice confirmed no date had yet been set for the appeal, which will be led by Karim Khalil QC, who represented Hilton at his trial.
