Motorists beware – roadworks in Suffolk and Essex include A12, A47, A120 and A14 Orwell Bridge

Road closures for this week include the A12 in Essex, A47 in west Suffolk and sections of the A14 including the Orwell Bridge.

Highways England has announced its planned roadworks up until Sunday, October 1, and advised drivers of alterations to their route.

The works include ongoing safety work on the Orwell Bridge, which started last month and continues until mid-October.

Overnight closures of the bridge in both directions began last week between 9pm and 6am, on Monday to Friday nights, and will be completed by Friday, October 6.

Traffic is to be diverted from junctions 55, Copdock, and 58, Seven Hills, with eastbound traffic diverted via London Road, Yarmouth Road and Colchester Road around the north of Ipswich, onto Heath Road and Felixstowe Road before re-joining the A14 at Seven Hills. The westbound diversion will follow the same route in reverse.

Technical surveys are also being carried out on the A14 westbound at Bury St Edmunds, between junctions 45 and 44, which saw the road closed last night from 8pm-6am and again tonight. Diversions will be via the A1088 and A134.

Further surveys will be carried out on the A14 westbound at Stowmarket between junctions 50 and 49, which will see the road closed for three nights from Wednesday between 8pm and 6am. The diversion route will be to take the A1120 and A1308.

Lanes will be closed overnight from 8pm-6am on the A11 between Newmarket and Norwich for 10 weeks to allow for vegetation clearance,

The A11 will also see resurfacing work between Red Lodge and Newmarket continue until the end of the month, with full closures between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday.

The A11 will be closed between Barton Mills Fiveways roundabout and Red Lodge on the A11 southbound. The diversion route will direct traffic along the A11 northbound towards Barton Mills, the A1101 towards Fordham All Saints, followed by the A14.

Work to repair the Ewell Bridge on the A12 near Kelvedon continues this week. The damaged pedestrian bridge over the A12 remains closed 24/7 while repair work continues. Pedestrians will be diverted to use the alternative route.

Work to upgrade street lighting on the A120 between Coggeshall and Marks Tey continues this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in use in various locations overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 25 September for five nights.
